My Response to A Comment

Here are examples of how the Republican party has blocked the vote over the years,1) in 2013 the Voting Rights Act was modified which allowed States to slowly change access to voting; 2) Voter ID laws came into play allowing only certain types of ID; 3) To prevent college students from voting, the State issued College ID was not approved as an acceptable form of identification for voting; 4) Several Southern States allowed Sunday voting, church leaders would load congregations on busses, Sunday voting is no longer an option; 5) Nonprofit agencies/organizations would provide transportation to the polls on voting, numerous Southern States passed laws prohibiting the transportation of groups of people to voting polls; 6) Several States across America have reduced the number of days/hours for early voting.

I too have known women who used abortion as a means of birth control, which is 100% wrong. But you are aware that abortion, whose official name is dilatation and curettage (D&C), was being approved for white women long before Roe-v-Wade was passed. The protests for legalized abortion came about because poor white women and women of color were dying due to the after-effects of coat hangers and knitting needles abortions. And the “late term” talking point utilized by the Pro-Choice groups is just that talking point. Planned Parenthood, the once primary entity that performed abortions, would not do one past the end of the first trimester. Medical abortions during the second trimester were done, in most cases, the fetus was deformed or already deceased. It was a rarity for abortions to be performed during the third trimester as by that time a fetus had the ability to live outside the womb. Now, I do believe that abortions should be limited to one in the event of an unwanted pregnancy because in 2023 there are hundreds of birth control methods. Prior to Roe-v-Wade there was only ONE birth control pill for ALL women in America, and a lot of those women (including me) could not take that pill. Now that Roe-v-Wade is no longer an option, women will be forced to carry a deceased fetus to term, women who become hyperglycemic will die, and women will be forced to carry a fetus to term who has no chance of living outside the womb (babies without a brain or CNS). Abortion was a medical procedure which had saved the lives of millions of women. I lost a very close friend to an illegal abortion, and that is why I will always be for legal abortions.

I understand you may want to insult me by insinuating that I am “glazing over the truth”, but I have lived on this earth for 70 years and I have seen and/or experienced racism and discrimination. Now during COVID, I understood the necessity to shut down, but only because I had a vague remembrance of the devastation polio caused. COVID is a virus that was around before the major outbreak and continues to be around today.  I have always stated if people would wash their hands and maintain a clean environment the impact of COVID would be reduced to an inconvenience instead of a death sentence. You and I come from different generations, I come from the generation that was denied a lot and laws gave us a “sense of freedom”. For babies born from 1970 going forward, they had the freedom to make personal body decisions, vote without restrictions, live where they wanted, date/marry who they wanted, and attend the college of their choice. Many in your generation took a lot for granted, but those choice of freedom options are slowly being removed. As I believe our political parties are full of dishonest individuals who will lie to get what they want, but for me the Democratic party is less of a threat (for now) than the Republican/Trump party, and I will continue to support the Democratic party.

A personal Thought for the Day.
